Yep, JPR is the man in this area. Nicest customs that I have seen first hand. He will work with you on a price range, but dont be expecting a lami with titanium guides for $100. You get what you pay for, but his work is quality!

Thumbs up Jpr!!

I'll second the motion. Paul makes really nice stuff. Great guy to do business with.

With customs, you have an infinite number of choices. You can see all of them at Paul's place. He has an incredible inventory, reels too. You should call him.

Thumbs up

I got to test out one of those new rods on a 100lber. All I can say is that rod kicked that fishes arse. Brian and Joe thanks again for a great trip and again putting the dirty sledge on top of those fish.. I still have a bump on my noggin from your busted up rod sledge. I also got my first jigging tuna.

Hi Paul,
The new stick is beautiful!  It is everything I was expecting and more.   The quality of your work is obvious and the results are awsome. I'm really, really pleased and just can't wait to put a heavy bend on it.Hopefully I'll be able to add a report on Tuesday. Thanks again and I look forward to working with you again.
Best Regards,

David

Paul,
Thanks much for the custom lami striper jigging stick, hehe. It is fabulous. I have caught stripers to 26" on it, but no keepers. Still a blast for what I had it custom made for (sod banks, jigging, back bays). I've caught so many fish on it already including some 4' sharks off of Cape May Tuesday night. They were a hell of a fight on that rod. Sea was rough, current was ripping, and those sharks were fighting. The rod really kicks arse in all aspects!!! It is more than
broken in already.

I'll be back for more business in the future. I just wanted to say thanks!

Paul,

I just wanted to say thanks for the rods they work great! Believe it or not each rod caught a 6.5lb and 6lb fluke this past weekend. I had my brother in law out and he said what a difference the rod made in helping him feel the bite better!

Thanks,

Captain Barry Lafferty

I have never had a better built rod. It weighs about 9 ounces and at no spot does the line even come close to touching the rod. I always see these load tests so after using it on the water last weekend i wanted to see how it would fare. I don't have allot of weight laying around so this test may look foolish but I cant rave enough about the work Paul did on this rod from JPR custom rods. I wanted a parabolic rod for Japanese style jigging very simplistic and plain with silver accents but something that had backbone to tackle monster fish.I used it last weekend and fell in love with it immediately. At first glance I thought "this will be way to stiff" until I bent it and boy did I love the action. It was very easy on me pulling on fish up to 100#'s last week. I didn't feel beat up like I used to on my old rod.
With the help of my son (who won picture of the Month for Pelagic Gear for April) and some weights I tested the load.

Picture 1 is 10 #'s and its almost nothing

Picture 2 is at 18#'s and still perfect

Picture 3 is at 26#'s and when I did it I felt little strain but my son who is 89#'s he was enjoying himself ha ha
I would highly recommend both Paul/JPR Custom rods his professionalism and knowledge was amazing and i will be back for more. The jigging master rod took it easy on me while pulling on fish, weight loads are a great way to measure but on the water this rod was a beast

These fish caught using JPR Rods!!!!

We were right in front of you guys fishing aboard Capt. John Sowerby's "Hooked Up."

Our crew went 10 for 16 on the big, slob bluefins, and we kept 2 that were estimated by the crew at 110 & 120 lbs.

Paul, attached is a photo of the 120 pounder that I jigged up and landed on one of your rods. (The rod was Mate James' custom Lamiglass togging stick that you wrapped for him.) I managed to land this tuna after an hour and twenty minute fight on the light rod paired with a small TN-16 reel spooled with 65 pound Power Pro braid. By the time, we got the fish in the boat, the side plates of the reel were hot to the touch. (This was the third tuna that I hooked on the jig, but the first two pulled free after ~15 minutes.)

Capt. John put us right on the meat as we had the first tuna hooked within 10 minutes of coming tight to the anchor. Within the next 3 hours, we went on to land 9 more, but unfortunately, our hot bite got killed when the boat traffic got heavy all around us.

This was a corporate trip sponsored by my company, and it was the first time I ever had a chance to try jigging for tuna. I sure hope that it won't be my last! I figure by sometime next week, my forearms will probably stop aching and my smile will start to fade, but for now I am one whooped but happy camper!
