I have never had a better built rod. It weighs about 9 ounces and at no spot does the line even come close to touching the rod. I always see these load tests so after using it on the water last weekend i wanted to see how it would fare. I don’t have allot of weight laying around so this test may look foolish but I cant rave enough about the work Paul did on this rod from JPR custom rods. I wanted a parabolic rod for Japanese style jigging very simplistic and plain with silver accents but something that had backbone to tackle monster fish. I used it last weekend and fell in love with it immediately. At first glance I thought “this will be way to stiff” until I bent it and boy did I love the action. It was very easy on me pulling on fish up to 100#’s last week. I didn’t feel beat up like I used to on my old rod. With the help of my son (who won picture of the Month for Pelagic Gear for April) and some weights I tested the load. I would highly recommend both Paul/JPR Custom rods his professionalism and knowledge was amazing and i will be back for more. The jigging master rod took it easy on me while pulling on fish, weight loads are a great way to measure but on the water this rod was a beast. Paul wrapped the new 600g OTI blank for me… my dad just got it on Saturday. I have not seen it in person yet, just these pictures, but it looks awesome. According to my dad, its extremely light (even with the metal seat which I chose bc it matched the color scheme) and incredibly strong. The titanium guides look great, and from the pics I’m extremely happy. Can’t wait to use it! It is a Philadelphia Eagles theme - you can see the logo below the first guide I’m thinking Phillies next?

Got a chance to go to Jupiter to do some jigging and bait fishing. It felt like we were getting bit on every drop of the jig. It was crazy to see the giant bait balls all around the reef. We were also impressed with the number of bull sharks on the reef. Total we caught four bull sharks two of which were on jigs. Paul from JPR rods really made me some incredible rods, we caught the bulls on his 400gram oti blank with 33lbs of drag… we tried that on the travela rods and we couldn’t even budge the sharks off the bottom. over two days we must have caught over 100 fish! We took our Contender 27 across to Old Bahama Bay to do some reef fishing. It was a solid 4-6 with a few 8’s thrown in on the way across we averaged about 15 knots… We first started up anchored up chumming to get some yellow tails and grunts for bait. The biggest problem we had all trip was that we could not stop getting sharked… we caught a variety of other fish on anchor as well IE houndfish, rainbow runners, AJ’s, and Cudas etc. I actually used the JPR jigging rods for my bottom fishing as well as jigging this trip and they worked excellent. The whole second half of the day we spent jigging and this is what produces most of our groupers but once again we got sharked more then have the time. We noticed the eastern tackle flatsides jigs to get the most action until we ran out of the from the sharks. All in all we kept four groupers and ripped back across at 37 knots…

"I had to put this short report up talking about the new set of rods made for me by Paul from JPR rods. They are hands down the best tuna rods I have ever had built. I had some 7' 30-50 Super Seeker blanks and some 6'3" SS XXH blanks. The 7' rods will handle the winter wahoo fishing and the 6'3" are the tuna killers. I fished with some reps from Seeker rods back in Jan and after talking with them about how we fish the wahoo and tuna. Jim Scarletta gave me his opinion of what blank he recommended. The 7' rods were just the ticket for the wahoo with just enough tip and plenty of backbone. We never tried the tuna rods but after the first choice I trusted his judgement. Seeker doesn't offer a acid wrapped rod so this is where Paul comes in. I have heard alot of good things about his rods. And I was outfitting a boat for someone and he had a set built by Paul. I throughly checked out the rods and was impressed with them. So I contacted him to build me a set of wahoo and tuna rods. I just told Paul what I wanted and he offered a few suggestions. The finished product came out better than I ever expected. I told Paul the colors of my boat and what reels I was going to put on the rods and to make a killer butt wrap for me." - Capt. The conventional, spiral wrapped 300g rod is for my wife Sandi. You can probably tell by the wrap colors she chose! Paul at JPR Rods was great to work with over the phone and the finished rods look great! JPR Rods will soon be an O.T.I. dealer in the eastern Pennsylvania, NY/NJ area!"

"Went over to Paul's house today and had a great time pulling on some blanks and completed rods. I've ordered a custom OTI 50lb 7.5 ft popping rod for topwater tuna which should be finished right before the topwater BFT bite starts up in MA. I'm hoping to use it for some GOM YFT at some point as well; maybe not this year though. I took a look at probably 10-12 rods and LOVED his custom spinner with roller guides. The tip is super soft for popping and jigging, but I'm hoping we can find a lighter blank that has a comparable tip action for my version. Paul's GUSA dragon is just insane. Titanium roller guides...this rod is as light as a light tackle trout rod The rod has a GREAT bend to it as well, but enough backbone to slay some big ones. A trolling/chunking dream rod. It belongs in a museum behind 4" thick glass. Took the custom spinner with the roller guides as well as a GUSA Wahoo Jr rod outside and played with some weights Couldn't find a lot to use so we ended up with 10-12lbs."

"I just received my JPR jigmaster 400g and wanted to say I am IMPRESSED.. They over exceeded my expectations... Wish I chose a different color then silver and black, (because it looks like a shimano), but this rod is BAD AZZ!!Just wanted to thank Paul and hope it performs as good as it looks to slay tuna. Thank you again!"

"I picked up my custom OTI/JPR 50lb popping rod tonight from Paul. Looks great and I'm pumped to use it up in Cape Cod Bay in mid-July for what it was built to be. But in all honesty...I feel I could use this for popping Roosters, Cubera, Mahi, etc...great all around offshore spinning rod. The rod feels strong and has an awesome bend/action to keep things "fun". I have tons of lures in the 60-100g range I would like to try out with this puppy. Stay tuned. Also, I think I found the conventional rod I want for my 665W 2spd reel over at Paul's tonite Hope I can pick her up before I go to the islands!"
